Sometimes people get it all wrong about boudoir. They see a scantily-clan woman and they jump to a whole lot of conclusions. Nakedness? Implied nakedness? Tsk tsk that must be porn. And let me be clear-I’m not porn-shaming anybody, but boudoir and porn are definitely not the same thing. Let me break it down for you.
We as women are everything that goes along with being human, and that means we have sexual wants and needs. While porn is focused exclusively on erotica and the act of sex, boudoir captures the natural sexiness that comes with womanhood and body celebration. Sexual gratification is not the point.
I don’t know how much porn y’all have seen, but the entire industry is made by men and for men. Women are hyper-sexualized, degraded, and minimized. Instead of boiling down the entire worth of a woman into her sexual willingness, boudoir creates a world of being beautiful and sexy independent of a man (unless you booked a couple’s shoot). Boudoir rejects the unattainable beauty standards of the patriarchy and helps women celebrate the notion that you can be sexy if you have cellulite, or if you’re older than 25, or if you aren’t supermodel thin. F*ck that mess.
Once you’ve selected your session date, the first thing we do is schedule a wardrobe consult. This one-on-one planning session with me allows us to get to know each other and allows you to establish boundaries. The last thing I want to do is make you feel uncomfortable. So, you set the tone and we work within those guidelines. Porn definitely can’t say that.
All of my clients are on a journey of self-love and self-acceptance. They are cancer survivors celebrating their victory despite their battle scars. Or mothers becoming comfortable with their post-baby body. They are individuals who are reclaiming their femininity and rejecting bad behaviors from others. It’s all about love. Porn, on the other hand, doesn’t usually have empowerment on the agenda.
Ready to see how you can capture your sensual side on your terms? Sign up for a consultation and we’ll give you a call.
xoxo,
Ria
