“Doing a boudoir session sounds fun but I’m single and don’t have anyone to do it for.” Sound familiar? I’m sure some of y’all are shaking your head yes. Of all the excuses I hear to not do boudoir, that’s probably the one that comes up the most. And while I totally get that gifting pictures to someone special is super romantic and sexy, framing boudoir as an act of service for someone else kinda misses the point. If not being in a relationship is one of the main reasons holding you back from doing a session, here are 6 reasons why you should do a boudoir shoot when you’re single.
We’ve been trained our whole lives to think our worth as a woman is tied to our role as a girlfriend/wife/partner. According to the patriarchy, being alone is the absolute worst thing that could happen to us. I call bulls*** on that. I deserve to be celebrated all the time, not just as a girlfriend/wife/partner. I’m worthy of happiness and greatness. Doing boudoir when you’re single is you valuing yourself as an individual.
I’m not going to pretend being single is easy. There are a lot of bad dates, disappointment, and discouragement. On the toughest of days, it’s even hard to remember that you’re a beautiful and sexy being. On those low days, hyping yourself up with actual pictures of yourself is a guaranteed way to get your groove back. When you do boudoir when you’re single, you’re not just taking someone’s word that you’re a hottie. You’ll literally be looking at yourself with your own two eyes (through the lens of a professional photographer) and will see yourself in all of your glory.
You. Can’t. Pour. From. An. Empty. Cup. Especially when you’re single, it’s a perfect time to work on yourself and go hard into the self-love journey. Before you can truly love someone else and be seriously committed, you have to be seriously committed to loving yourself. That means putting time, energy, and money towards the things you want to do. Doing boudoir when you’re single is a perfect practice of investing in yourself.
Honoring your inner goddess and reveling in your complete femaleness is an act of empowerment. Do not feel ashamed of your sexuality. You should do things that feel good. It might sound weird, but boudoir helps you to listen to your sensual femininity. You will leave my studio knowing more about what sexy means to you. When you do boudoir when you’re single, you are committing to a future of confidence.
The most important person that should love your body is you. You are beautiful, despite the flaws that you think you have. The wrinkles, the rolls, the acne, the scars… they do not hide your incredible beauty. Loving yourself may take time, but the self-love journey is for you and you alone. Doing boudoir when you’re single is celebrating your body and your self-love milestones.
Last but not least, doing a boudoir shoot when you’re single doesn’t mean you can’t ever gift the pictures to someone special later on. Your images are timeless. If and when you are ready to share your images, they’ll be there. You can present your person with an album of your session, or you can create an album with a collection of images from multiple shoots, highlighting your growth and beauty over time. When you do boudoir when you’re single, you’re leaving the door open to share your images later.
