It’s been a while since my last blog- I’ve been taking the first part of the year to put me first and really dig deep. My latest self-examination has been on my feminine energies and where they stand. We live our best life when we intimately understand our divine femininity, so I am working on exploring my inner goddess.
The divine feminine is nuanced and powerful, and works as two harmonious opposites. Like the concept of yin and yang, the dark feminine and light feminine come together to create the divine femininity that is inside all women. They are both valuable sides of us that deserve to be celebration. For those of you new to learning about the feminine energies, let me share what I’ve learned so far.
First things first. Our dark feminine side is not evil, bad, or something to be mistrusted. Whereas the light feminine is peaceful, nurturing, and graceful, the dark feminine is about pleasure and power. This is the side of our femininity that the patriarchal society has told us squash, so our dark femininity is the side of ourselves that we are likely the most unfamiliar with.
DARK FEMININE TRAITS
CREATIVITY. PASSION. FEARLESSNESS. AUTHENTICITY. DRIVE. SEDUCTION. TRUTHFULNESS. POWER. PLEASURE.
While our dark feminine is- of course- part of our sexuality, it extends well beyond the bedroom. Traits like passion and creativity, competitiveness and authenticity are valuable in all aspects of life; in work, social settings, and family dynamics. When we cultivate our strength and power, it connects us with transformational energy where we can accomplish our wildest dreams.
The dark feminine power is what fueled the trailblazing women who came before us. The strong, incredible women who stood up to power, who broke boundaries, and did what others said couldn’t be done. The dark feminine is a deep, fiery, magnetic force that’s part of the birth/death/rebirth cycle.
We need our dark feminine for so many reasons, but mostly it’s the one that allows us to shake off the bounds of the patriarchy. The dark feminine teaches us to take up space, and not to hide aspects that are “unladylike”. It celebrates our sexual urges, ignores guilt, and invites radical change. It encourages us to control all of ourselves and be limitless in that power.
I’m working to ensure I honor and praise my dark femininity. Some of my clients who are exploring their dark side in boudoir are doing the same. And when they see their portraits, they’re stunned. They’re shocked to see the powerful, sultry inner goddess unleashed in all her glory. And they leave refreshed for more self-exploration that leads to a happy, powerful life.
Want to learn about the light feminine? I’ll be going into that in the next post. Stay tuned!
XOXO,
Ria
