Let’s talk power. As women, we usually aren’t encouraged to understand the strength inside us. We must push back on that patriarchal pressure to stay within the lines; but our lives, ladies, should be what we want them to be. Tapping into our feminine energy allows us to channel immense power to achieve our dreams. When we understand our dark feminine and our light feminine, we are unstoppable.
As we journey to understand the divine feminine, we must give ourselves grace in our exploration. In their true form, both light and dark feminines are powerful and nourishing, and you should try to incorporate them into your life in new and improved ways. But sometimes a misunderstanding of our energies can lead to toxicity and imbalance. Instead of being empowered, we end up disheartened and confused. Here are some examples of how our femininity can get twisted.
Light feminine energy is usually classified as warm, compassionate, and nurturing. (Read more about light energy here.) Light energy is bright and wonderful, but if we allow it to take up all of our inner space without leaving room for our dark energy, we become disempowered.
Examples of Empowered Light Feminine: Being kind and patient. Having the grace to accept mistakes. Exuding warmth and receptive energy to friends and mentors. Maintaining comfort with feelings and vulnerability. Supporting others and nurturing their journey.
All of those wonderful light qualities have to come with boundaries. Otherwise, those traits can quickly turn toxic.
Examples of Toxic Light Feminine: Being meek and submissive to please others. Tending to be passive or passive-aggressive. Deliberately trying not to take up space because of a lack of self-confidence. Having a fragile sense of self that is defined by your roles to others (like a mother, partner, wife, etc). Putting softness and politeness to the detriment of your own self. Always giving to others but never taking time to rejuvenate yourself.
The light feminine gets to be too much so easily- the patriarchy burdens us to always emphasize this side of ourselves. And when it becomes unhealthy, the patriarchy smiles. But when we reclaim our boundaries within our light energy, we begin to thrive.
Likewise, our dark feminine energy is an important part of our divinity. It drives our passion and bold feelings. But when it’s allowed to run rampant, it goes off the rails.
Examples of Empowered Dark Feminine: Channeling passion into all aspects of life. Feeling secure in seduction and whatever sexual situations you enjoy. Exhibiting power and leadership qualities. Bringing fierceness to the table. Trying new things. Being unapologetic for your authentic self.
Sometimes when we lean into our dark energy we are so busy rejecting societal norms that we don’t check in with ourselves and end up unhappy.
Examples of Toxic Dark Feminine: Being volatile and explosive with emotions. Having dangerous or reckless sex that doesn’t feel in line with your inner self. Manipulating friends and family to avoid being honest and open. Putting yourself in a bad way because you don’t want to ask for help. Continuing in unhealthy relationships.
The balance of the two energies is essential to leading a healthy and balanced life. I’ve been working on my journey to feel more comfortable asserting my boundaries, and to be peaceful with mistakes. Where are you on your journey?
